Check La Salle County Traffic Tickets

Start with the court named on your citation, because La Salle County traffic tickets are split across several offices. Each justice of the peace precinct keeps its own traffic court records, and so do the Cotulla and Encinal municipal courts. No single countywide search ties them together. Use the issuing court's own online route if it has one, or call, mail, or visit the counter. Check the appearance date and your response options before you pay or ask for a trial. A payment link alone is not proof of a full docket entry or a final outcome.

La Salle County Traffic Court Records

Fine-only misdemeanors and traffic matters fall to four justice precincts inside their own jurisdiction. Cotulla Municipal Court and Encinal Municipal Court handle city ordinance and Class C cases. That includes city traffic tickets. The court named on the ticket controls the route. Where you live or where the stop happened matters less. That name on the paper decides it. JP Precinct 1 and Precinct 3 sit in Cotulla. Precinct 2 sits in Encinal. Precinct 4 serves from Fowlerton. A city-issued ticket may belong to the municipal court. That holds even when a JP office is closer. The district and county clerk is not the first stop for either type of case.

Identify the La Salle County JP Precinct

Read the citation first: the court name, precinct, address, appearance date, and citation number all appear there, and any search goes smoother once you have them. If the court is unclear, the county's official Justice Courts page lists the routes for all four precincts. When you call, keep the citation number and your driver-license information at hand, as the county instructs.

Court Location Telephone
JP Precinct 1 212 Center St., Cotulla (830) 202-3051 or (830) 879-4456
JP Precinct 2 502 Nopal St., Encinal (956) 948-5086
JP Precinct 3 513 Martinez St., Cotulla (830) 879-4128
JP Precinct 4 PO Box 476, Fowlerton (830) 202-0096

Precinct pages and office details can change without much notice. Call before you travel, especially if a closure or relocation notice is posted.

Looking Up a Traffic Ticket

JP Precinct 1 links to the official Government Portal. But that landing page offers contact details and a Continue button, not confirmed result fields. Treat it as a payment and citation route. Calling it a full docket search would overstate what it shows. For other precinct and city cases, route directly through the court. No public search is confirmed.

  1. Find the issuing court, precinct, citation number, and response date on the ticket.
  2. Use the official JP1 portal only if the citation belongs there, or use the city payment link when the municipal court confirms it.
  3. Call the issuing clerk with the citation number and driver-license information if no online result appears.
  4. Visit the correct counter to confirm filing when the county directs an in-person check.
  5. For mail, obtain the official Mail Appearance Form and confirm the court’s current payment and delivery instructions.
  6. Record the clerk-confirmed date, plea route, amount, and any document-copy request separately.

A new ticket may not appear in a system right away. The delay does not erase the printed promise to appear. Keep checking with the named court instead of trying another court's portal.

La Salle County JP1 Portal Limits

The JP Precinct 1 Government Portal is the official source shown here.

La Salle County JP Precinct 1 Government Portal

The screen routes JP1 cases online, nothing more. It does not create a countywide docket search. Nor does it show a confirmed field set for every citation. Paying does not automatically close the record or cancel any appearance requirement. Save the receipt. If the ticket, the portal, and the clerk's instructions disagree, confirm your status with the precinct.

How to Find Your Traffic Court Date

Your appearance date is printed on the citation itself. Confirm it with the issuing JP or municipal clerk before you drive anywhere, since a continuance, a new setting, or a delayed filing can change things. The 81st/218th district calendar is not the standard calendar for lower-court traffic citations.

Citation Number Use the exact identifier printed on the ticket, such as citation number as issued; no universal local pattern was verified.
Court The named JP precinct or Cotulla or Encinal Municipal Court.
Date and Time The appearance deadline or clerk-confirmed hearing setting.
Place The current court office or other location stated by the clerk.
Status Confirm whether filed, pending, reset, paid, or disposed rather than guessing from a blank portal result.

Higher-level district settings are a separate matter. The La Salle County court dates page explains the LASA calendar for those countywide settings.

Mail Appearance for La Salle County Citations

To appear by mail, the county directs you to send the official Mail Appearance Form, a money order, and a copy of the citation. All of it must arrive before the appearance date. The current form and its fields come from the issuing court. So request the latest version and verify the mailing address and accepted payment instrument with the clerk. A written request for a driving-safety course or a trial must arrive before the appearance date under county guidance. Sending the request does not mean the court granted it. Mail it trackable if that fits, and keep copies. Then ask the clerk to confirm receipt and the next setting.

Mail checklist: Use the issuing court’s current form, include the required citation copy and money order, and confirm arrival before the stated date.

Pay or Contest a Ticket

Paying and contesting are different choices with different consequences. Before either one, ask the issuing court what plea the action records, whether an appearance is still required, and what deadline governs the response. Online and mail payment work for JP1. No universal payment route covers all La Salle County courts.

Paying the ticket Contesting the ticket
Confirm the plea and total with the issuing clerk Enter the permitted response and request a trial or hearing
Use only that court’s approved online, mail, or counter method Submit in writing or in person as that court directs
Keep proof and verify the case status Obtain and confirm the new court date
Do not assume payment alone supplies a certified disposition Do not assume a request is granted until the clerk confirms it

Do not miss the response date: County guidance warns that violating a promise to appear can create another charge and may affect license renewal. Contact the court at once if the date has passed.

Under-17 La Salle County Traffic Appearances

La Salle County's JP guidance sets special appearance rules for a child under 17. Those rules include parent or guardian participation. The rules differ again for a child 16 or younger. No ordinary fine schedule overrides those appearance requirements. A parent or guardian should call the issuing court before the date. Ask what attendance, identification, plea, and setting rules apply. An online payment screen cannot replace the required appearance. Not unless the court says so for that specific case.

La Salle County Municipal vs JP Tickets

Cotulla Municipal Court sits at 117 N Front St., Cotulla, and answers at (830) 879-2367. The court posts no public citation-search form. So call ahead and confirm the current address before relying on any payment or date. City hall and the municipal court are not interchangeable locations. Encinal Municipal Court answers at (956) 948-5226 and court@cityofencinal.com. The city homepage carries Online Payments and Municipal Court links. The payment screen's fields are unconfirmed. A ticket in Encinal Municipal Court is a separate case from one in JP Precinct 2 at 502 Nopal Street. That holds even when both involve the Encinal area.

Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record

Two different offices hold these two files. The court or clerk that issued the ticket keeps the traffic court record for La Salle County. The Texas Department of Public Safety keeps the state driving record. Asking one office for its file does not fetch the other, and a court docket that shows nothing online says nothing about the state file.

Court traffic record Driving record
Keeper Issuing JP or municipal clerk Texas Department of Public Safety
Shows Citation, settings, plea, court action, disposition when recorded State-maintained driving-history entries
Route Court portal, phone, counter, mail, or record request Official DPS driver-record request channel

The driver record comes up only to prevent a records-routing mistake. It is not the court record. For what happened in the citation case and when the issuing court set it, the La Salle County traffic court record remains the source.

Copies and Fees

Copy fees work court by court here. Ask the issuing JP or municipal clerk directly what it charges and how it takes payment, because La Salle County has no countywide lower-court copy schedule to lean on. If your request lands with the district clerk on a traffic-related matter, Texas Government Code section 51.3033 sets baseline figures. Still, confirm before assuming those numbers apply at a municipal or JP office.

Item Known guidance Action
JP or municipal plain copy No verified countywide amount Confirm with issuing clerk
JP or municipal certified copy No verified countywide amount State certification need
District-clerk noncertified paper copy $1 per page statutory baseline Use only when that clerk holds the file
District-clerk certification $5 certificate/seal plus page charge Confirm current total

The driver record comes up here only to prevent a routing mistake. For what happened in the citation case, and when the court set each date, the La Salle County traffic court docket is the record that matters.

Confirming a Changed La Salle County Citation

What if the portal, your paper ticket, and the clerk give you three different stories? Verify the issuing court's current instruction, since that office controls the case. Write down the call date. Note the court you contacted and the next step it gave you. Ask three things: has the ticket been filed, has the date moved, and is a written request still waiting on action.

Closures and office moves can shut a counter without ending your duty to respond. So call before you drive across La Salle County. Keep the citation, your receipts, and copies of anything you mailed. Hold them until the court confirms the disposition in writing.
